This AMG8833 Thermal Camera Sensor is an 8x8 array of infrared thermal sensors. When connected to your microcontroller (or Raspberry Pi) it will return a set of 64 individual infrared temperature readings via I2C. It's like one of those fancy thermal cameras, but compact and simple for easy integration. The AMG8833 is the next generation of 8x8 thermal infrared sensors and offers higher performance than the previous AMG8831. The sensor supports I2C only and has a configurable interrupt pin that can trigger when any individual pixel is above or below a threshold you set. The AMG8833 thermal imaging camera sensor has a temperature measurement range of 0°C to 80°C (32°F to 176°F) . The accuracy is + - 2.5°C (4.5°F). It can detect humans from a distance of up to 7 meters (23) feet. With a maximum frame rate of 10Hz, it's perfect for creating your own body detector or mini thermal camera. We use this breakthrough code on an Arduino or compatible (the sensor communicates via I2C) or a Raspberry Pi using Python. On the Pi, with the help of the SciPy python library for image processing, we were able to insert an 8x8 grid and get some very good results!
